GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five Baldwin Wallace University softball student-athletes have been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Academic All-District Team.
In order to qualify for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a sophomore academically and athletically, must carry a 3.50 or higher grade point average and must have competed in 90 percent of the institution's games played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games Pitchers must have made 17 appearances or pitched in 25 innings.
Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), sophomore left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw), sophomore All-OAC designated player/pitcher Maddie Lester (Boardman), sophomore All-OAC first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) and sophomore All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) earned all-district honors and now advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot, which will be announced on June 18, 2024.
Mau, who garners her second straight accolade, carried a 3.980 grade point average in early childhood education. This season, she appeared in 40 games with 39 starts. Mau batted .324 (45-of-139) with 28 runs scored, 15 runs batted-in (RBIs), team- leading 14 stolen bases, three doubles, two walks and one triple. In the field, she recorded 72 putouts and 42 assists for a .958 fielding percentage. For her career, Mau appeared in 149 games and had a .357 batting average (182-of-510). She tallied 112 runs scored, 65 stolen bases, 56 RBIs, 22 walks, 17 doubles, three triples and three home runs. Mau finished with a career fielding percentage of .913 with 239 putouts and 181 assists. Off the field, she was a three-time Academic All-OAC honoree, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries.
Fox, who earns her first honor, carries a perfect 4.00 grade point average in communications sciences and disorders. This season, she appeared in 39 games with 38 starts. Fox batted .215 (23-of-107) with 19 runs scored, 14 walks, 10 RBIs, six doubles and six stolen bases. In the field, she recorded 41 putouts for a .976 fielding percentage. For her career, Fox has appeared in 81 games with a .277 batting average (66-of-238). She has tallied 41 runs scored, 32 RBIs, 28 walks, 17 doubles, 15 stolen bases, one triple and one homerun. Fox has a .980 career fielding percentage with 94 putouts and five assists. Off the field, she is an Academic All-OAC honoree and a Dean's List student.
Lester, who garners her first accolade, carries a 3.917 grade point average in biology. In her first season, she appeared in 41 games with 40 starts, including 18 appearances in the circle. Lester led the team and was tied for fourth in the OAC in doubles with 13. She led the squad and was tied for fifth in the conference in walks with 16 and homeruns with seven. Lester led the team and was seventh in the league in runs batted-in (RBIs) with 37. She was second on the team in batting with a .365 average (46-of-126). Lester also added two triples. In the circle, she was second on the squad in wins with nine. Lester recorded 60 strikeouts in 84.2 innings pitched. She had a 3.39 earned run average (ERA). Lester was a second-team All-OAC honoree and an All-OAC Tournament Team selection. Off the field, she is a Dean's List student.
Ryser, who earns her first honor, carries a 3.930 grade point average in national security. This season, she appeared and started in 39 games. Ryser was third on the team with a career-high 19 RBIs and was third on the squad with a career-best .339 batting average (39-of-115). She tallied a career-high six doubles, a career-best tying three stolen bases and six walks. In the field, Ryser led the team with 83 putouts while adding 13 assists for a .990 fielding percentage. She was a second-team All-OAC honoree and an All-OAC Tournament Team selection for the second straight season. For her career, Ryser has appeared in 81 games and has a .317 batting average (71-of-224). She has recorded 37 RBIs, 15 walks, eight doubles, six stolen bases and one triple. Ryser has a career fielding percentage of .983 with 380 putouts and 20 assists. Off the field, she is an Academic All-OAC honoree, Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar.
Wolford, who garners her first career accolade, carries a perfect 4.00 grade point average in biology. This season, she appeared in 40 games with 39 starts. Wolford led the team with a career-best .372 batting average (42-of-113). She was second on the squad with career-best 30 RBIs and career-high 10 doubles. Wolford also tallied eight walks, two homeruns, two stolen bases and one triple. In the field, she led the team with 73 assists and added 65 putouts for a .941 fielding percentage. Wolford was an All-OAC honorable mention honoree and an All-OAC Tournament Team selection. For her career, Wolford has appeared in 82 games and has a .320 batting average (72-of-225). She has recorded 52 RBIs, 16 walks 15 doubles, seven stolen bases, three triples and two homeruns. Wolford has a career fielding percentage of .935 with 124 putouts and 151 assists. Off the field, is an Academic All-OAC honoree, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, and a member of the National Residence Hall Honor Society.
BW finished the 2024 campaign with an overall record of 25-16 and an OAC mark of 11-5. The Yellow Jackets won the OAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III regional Tournament.
