BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University veteran Head Women's Basketball Coach Cherri Harrer has announced the hiring of Adam Bailey '06 and Michael Gallagher as assistant coaches.
Bailey and Gallagher join Harrer's staff and a Yellow Jacket women's basketball program that has reached the Division III NCAA Tournament 11 times in the past 17 seasons and the "Elite Eight" three times.
"We are pleased to welcome back Adam and welcome Michael to Baldwin Wallace University," said Harrer, who enters this season with 450 career wins to rank second all-time in Ohio Athletic Conference history. "They each brings solid teaching skills and enthusiasm to the program and will be a solid addition to our staff."
Bailey returns to his alma mater after spending the past four years as the freshman girls basketball coach at Brunswick High School. In 2010, he served as the head coach of the Team First Basketball Club Freshman League.
Bailey, a native of Rootstown, Ohio, is a former student-athlete at BW. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood education and participated on the cross country and the indoor & outdoor track and field teams his freshman year. While at Rootstown High School, Bailey played basketball for four years and earned two varsity letters. He was named as a team captain his senior year.
Gallagher has taught high school social studies for 32 years, including five at Western Reserve H.S. He is a veteran coach who has more than 40 years of experience at Lorain Catholic, South Amherst, Elyria Catholic, Western Reserve and Wooster high schools. He has spent 26 years as a women's basketball coach, including a 422-151 career mark and a 356-91 record at Wooster H.S. It also included two OHSAA state runner-up finishes.
In addition, Gallagher was the OHSAA Division I Coach of the Year in 1996, coached in the OHSAA Division I State All-Star Game in 1996 and has been an Ohio Cardinal Conference and District Coach of the Year several times. He also coached an AAU national championship team in 1992 and is a member of the Wooster High School Athletics Hall of Fame. Some of his best Wooster student-athletes have excelled at BW, including Tiffany Lockett, Jen Swinehart and Sarah Gordon. All three earned All-OAC honors and Swinehart and Gordon went on to be Division III All-Americans and Academic All-Americans.
Gallagher also forged a successful career in a number of other sports. He coached boys and girls track and field for 14 seasons with a least one competitor advancing to the OHSAA State meet each year. He coached golf for 12 seasons, including three trips to the OHSAA State Tournament. Gallagher coached football for 19 seasons, including five trips to the OHSAA State Playoffs with two state titles.
"We think that Adam and Michael will be great additions to our athletics family," said fifth-year Athletic Director Kris A. Diaz. "They both will assist Cheri Harrer with all aspects of our nationally-renown women's basketball program."
