Baldwin Wallace Men's and Women's Swim Teams Lose to Case Western Reserve in Berea

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the BW Nataorium inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center in Berea, Ohio.  The men's team lost, 121-104, and the women's team lost, 134-92.

Highlighting the day for the men were individual winners in sophomore All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton), junior Jordan Irwin (Westerville/ South) and senior Nick Gattozzi (Strongsville).  Richert won the one-meter voluntary diving event with 195.15 points and the one-meter optional diving event with 295.90 points.  Irwin won the 100-yard freestyle in 51.35 seconds.  Gattozzi took the 100-yard individual medley in 1:01.27.  In the 200-yard freestyle relay, sophomore Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak), sophomore Mike Demitrieff (Parma/ Normandy), sophomore Matt Diamond (Ashtabula/ Lakeside) and senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference swimmer Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) took first place in 1:32.08.

 

The women's team was led by freshman Jessica LaFave (Beavercreek), with a first-place time of 11:44.16 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.  Freshman Alanna Roark (Elyria Catholic) won the one-meter voluntary diving event with 125.50 points.  Senior Kate Ritchey (White Oak, Pa/ McKeesport) finished the 100-yard individual medley in 1:09.91, good for first place.  LaFave teamed with senior Kelly Frahlich (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls), freshman Katie Cvelbar (South Euclid/ Regina) and freshman Tara Stitzlein (Millersburg/ West Holmes) in the 200-yard freestyle relay and finsihed first in 1:59.91

The BW swimmers and divers are back in action tommorow, Saturday, January 17 when they travel to Ada, Ohio to compete in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet against Ohio Northern University at 1:00 p.m.
