ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team finished third at the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet at the University of Mount Union, inside the Peterson Fieldhouse in the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex. The BW women had 106 points to finish third of 10 teams.
The top three performers in each event each All-OAC honors.
Highlighting the meet was the performance of sophomore pentathlete Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) who was named Fred Raizk Sprint Athlete award winner. She won the long jump on Friday with an OAC-record leap of 18-feet and 9.75 inches (18'9.75"), won the high jump with a leap of 5'5", won the 60-meter hurdles in an OAC-record time of 8.84 seconds and and the 60-meter dash in 7.82 seconds and set an OAC record in that event with a 7.74-second timing in the prelims.
In addition and placing second in the high jump was senior Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/ Western Reserve) with a leap of 5'5", senior middle distance ace Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) in the 800-meter run in 2:17.76, sophomore Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Kenston) in the weight throw with a toss of 51'7.75" and senior sprinter Nicole Smith (Geneva) in the 400 meters in. Gallavan also placed in the shot put with a toss of 43'3" and sophomore distance runner Kali Fittro (Tiffin/ Columbian) was third in the 5,000-meter run in 18:41.44.
The Yellow Jacket track and field teams are back in action on the weekend of March 14-15 when indoor qualifiers will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
In addition, the outdoor track and field season begins on March 14-15 at the Coastal Carolina (S.C.) University Invitational Meet.
