BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College football team was picked to finish fourth by the coaches and third by the Media at the Annual Ohio Athletic Conference Football Media Day today (Tuesday, August 10, 2009) at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
A year ago, the Yellow Jackets finished at 5-5 overall and 5-4 (tied-third) in the OAC under Head Coach John Snell, who enters his eighth year at his alma mater with a 46-26 career record. B-W returns 14 starters and 29 letterwinners this fall.
At Media Day, B-W received 51 total points from the nine voting OAC Coaches (a coach cannot vote for his own team) to place fourth and 217 total points from the 32 voting members of the media to finish third. Defending and 10-time national champion Mount Union College was the definitive choice by the coaches and media to repeat as OAC champions.
"I think based on last year's finish, the poll positions are fair," said Snell. "But as we always say, it's not where you start it's where you finish. "We (B-W) finished higher than we were picked last year and it's our goal to finish higher than where we are picked again this season."
Highlights from the event and interviews with coaches and players will be featured on a one-hour football preview show produced by the OAC and S&S Productions that will debut on SportsTime Ohio at 6:30 p.m. on August 25. A complete broadcast schedule for the show can be viewed at www.oac.org.
The Yellow Jackets open the 2009 season on Saturday, September 5 when they host Heartland Athletic Conference powerhouse and 2008 NCAA Division III playoffs participant Franklin (Ind.) College at 1:30 p.m. on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.
