Baldwin-Wallace Picked to Finish Seventh by Coaches; Eighth by Media at OAC Media Day

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College football team was picked to finish seventh by the coaches and eighth by the media at the Annual Ohio Athletic Conference Football Media Day today (Wednesday, August 4, 2010) at Ohio Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

A year ago, the Yellow Jackets finished at 3-7 overall and 3-6 (tied-seventh) in the OAC under Head Coach John Snell, who enters his ninth year at his alma mater with a 49-33 career record. B-W returns 18 starters and 29 letterwinners this fall. The Jackets were represented at Media Day by Snell, senior running back Kyrell Crook (Columbus/ St. Francis DeSales) and senior defensive tackle Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/ Watkins Memorial).

At Media Day, B-W received 34 total points from the nine voting OAC Coaches (a coach cannot vote for his own team) to place seventh and 145 total points from the 34 voting members of the media to finish eighth. Defending OAC and 10-time national champion University of Mount Union was the definitive choice by the coaches and media to repeat as OAC champions.

"Preseason polls only count for so much," said Snell. "But hearing the projections certainly serves as an intense motivator for us. We can't expect B-W football to finish seventh or eighth. Certainly, the picks make sense based on where we finished last season, but the reality of the situation will be determined after 10 games."

Highlights from the event and interviews with coaches and players will be featured on a one-hour football preview show produced by the OAC and S&S Productions that will debut on SportsTime Ohio at 11:30 p.m. on August 24. Replays are scheduled for August 26 at 8:00 a.m. and August 28 at 2:30 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets open the 2010 season on Thursday, September 2 when they host the College of Wooster at 7:00 p.m. on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.
