BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team lost to Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference by a final of 35-6, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. This was the first OAC dual match for both squads.
With its loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. With its win, Heidelberg is 9-10 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.
Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets were sophomore All-OAC 125-pounder Jesse Gunter (Akron /Coventry) and sophomore 157-pounder Garret Chase (Erie, Pa. /Cathedral Prep) with the team's only two victories.
Gunter's win at 125 pounds improved his record to 14-2. Gunter tied the match up with 5.6 seconds left and went on to defeat Delian Schneider in overtime with a 7-6 decision.
Chase improved his record to 14-2 overall as he defeated Aaron Banko by a 4-2 decision.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Friday, January 24 when they travel to Greenville, Pennsylvania to participate in the Mel Berry Duals hosted by Thiel College. BW will face Lycoming (Pa.) College, Thiel and Mercyhurst Northeast.
Media and fans are reminded that BW will host the 28th Annual John Summa memorial Tournament in the Higgins Center Fieldhouse on Saturday, February 8. Action is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
