BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team open the 2013-14 schedule on Friday (October 25) night when they host traditional rival Ohio Wesleyan University in the BW Natatorium located in the Lou Higgins Center at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon, BW will open Ohio Athletic Conference action when it hosts Wilmington College at 4:00 p.m.
The Yellow Jacket women were 4-9 overall and 1-5 against OAC foes a year ago. They will be led this winter by returning All-OAC competitors in seniors Angela Musille (Canton/GlenOak), Emma Gerdes (Avon) and Kayla Miller (Van Wert) and sophomore Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon).
Both Musille and Ashbaugh are versitile and can swim virtually any event. Musille is five-time school record-holder, including individually in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley events. She also is a multiple All-OAC performer and specializes in the breaststroke and IM. She also is a member of the school-record 200 and 400-yard medley relay teams with Gerdes in the 200 and Gerdes, Miller and junior Kayla Eyster (Canton, Mich./Plymouth-Canton) in the 400.
Ashbaugh is a butterfly specialist who also is strong in the IM and freestyle events. She had an strong freshman season and is expected to be a key this season.
Gerdes is a backstroke specialist who also is a key freestyler too. She and Miller also are members of the school-record 200-yard freestyle relay team. Miller is solid in the butterfly, breaststroke and IM events.
In addition, sophomore Maddie Fortune (Akron/Firestone) will head the diving corps.
